SystmOnline - One of the most popular choices with our patients, as they are able to make appointments through this system, which connects directly into the clinical computer system, so will be up to date information. To access this option you will need a username and password which can be obtained by talking to our reception team. Please bring photographic ID with you.
By hand - You can tick what you will require for the coming month and put the request in the box inside the foyer—or through the letterbox if the surgery is closed.

As of 1st October 2016 the Dispensary team will require 3 full working days (72 hours) to process requests for a prescription and please request repeat prescriptions well in advance of public holidays.
Would you like us to manage your repeat medications for you?
We can offer you a service, whereby when you pick up your prescription, you can tell us what you want for the following month and we will give you a date to pick it up, rather than you needing to remember to reorder.

Accessible Information Standard
The Accessible Information Standard is a new ‘information standard’ for implementation by all organisations that provide NHS or adult social care. The Standard aims to ensure that people who have a disability or sensory loss receive information that they can access and understand, for example in large print, braille or via email, and professional communication support if they need it, for example from a British Sign Language interpreter. The Standard requires organisations that provide NHS or adult social care to:
Although not exhaustive, the standard is likely to apply to people who are blind and/or deaf, those who have some hearing or visual loss, and people with learning disabilities.
Successful implementation of the Standard aims to lead to improved outcomes and experiences, and the provision of safer and more personalised care and services to those individuals who come within the Standard’s scope.
At practice level we will be making sure that we amend our commonly used forms to ask patients if they have any special communication needs. We will then record any on the patient’s medical record so that anyone seeing the patient is aware that the patient may need assistance with communication. We will make sure that all our forms are available in larger print for patients.

SystmOnline is a new and easy to use way in which patients can book their own appointments, order their repeat prescriptions and access part of their medical record online via our website.
Patients can now access more of their medical records - just like online banking, patients can now look at their medical records on a computer, a tablet or a smartphone, using a website or an app.

Parental access can be given for children under the age of 14. When a patient reaches 14, their account will automatically be disabled until they confirm they would like access to continue.
We feel SystmOnline will in particular benefit busy patients, patients who wish to take care of things outside normal office hours and those who want to book an advance appointment online.
Patients not on the internet can also benefit indirectly as a reduction in telephone calls should make the practice more accessible.
What is the Care Quality Commission (CQC)?
The CQC are regulators for all Health & Social Care in England. They are an independent organisation and do not form part of the Government so they can speak up for people who use services.
They check that people get good, safe health and social care and that it meets the rules set by the Government. This includes:
* GP Surgeries
* Care homes
* Home care services
The CQC check services and if they do not meet the government standards then there are a number of things that they can do, which include:
* Tell managers to quickly make a plan about how they will get better
* Give a service a warning letter with a date they must improve by
* Say a service cannot do certain jobs or offer certain services
* Issue a fixed penalty
* Take a service off the CQC list
* Take a service to court

Care Quality Commission (CQC) Inspection
Staithe Surgery received a routine, scheduled inspection from the Care Quality Commission on 19th April 2016 which focused on the following questions:
* Are services safe?
* Are services effective?
* Are services caring?
* Are services responsive to people's needs?
* Are services well-led?
Staithe Surgery received an overall rating of 'GOOD'.

Choice of GP Practice
From 5 January 2015, all GP practices in England are free to register new patients who live outside their practice boundary area.
This means that patients are able to join practices in more convenient locations, such as a practice near their work, closer to their child’s school or even re-join their existing practice when moving home.
There are some important things you need to know when registering ‘out of area’ with us, such as:
- These new arrangements are voluntary for GP practices and if we have no capacity at the time or feel it is not clinically appropriate or practical for you to be registered so far away from home then we can refuse your registration.
- Because of the greater distance to your home, you will be registered under the agreement that we will not provide you with a home visit when you are not well enough to come to the practice yourself.
- If your circumstances change and it is no longer clinically appropriate or practical for you to be registered away from home, we may ask you to consider registering with a practice closer to home where your care may be better provided at that time.
- Should you become too ill to attend the surgery in person or we are unable to assist you over the telephone, you will need to contact the NHS 111 service who will direct you to the right service for your needs.

NHS England requires that the net earnings of doctors engaged in the practice are published, and the required disclosure is shown below. However it should be noted that the prescribed method for calculating earnings is potentially misleading because it takes no account of how much time doctors spend working in the practice, and should not be used to form any judgement about GP earnings, nor to make any comparison with any other practice.
All GP Practices are required to declare the mean earnings (e.g. average pay) for GPs working to deliver GP services to patients at each practice.
The average pay for GPs working at Staithe Surgery in the last financial year was £76, 021 before tax and National Insurance. This is for three full time GPs and three part time GPs.
Staithe Surgery now send text message appointment reminders to your mobile phone.
This service has been launched in the hope that it will reduce the number of missed appointments. Over the last 3 months there has been a total of 456 missed appointments, which equates to 76 hours of a clinicians time.
To ensure this service runs smoothly, please can you ensure that your mobile number is up to date with us at all times.
If you do not currently have a mobile registered to your medical record and would like to start benefiting from this service, please let the receptionist know your mobile number.
Alternatively, if you would like to opt out of this service, please let the receptionist know.
When a patient reaches the age of 14 and makes contact with the practice, they will be asked by the receptionist or dispenser for their up to date mobile number. This is to ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times.
